Although the 2012 London Summer Olympics are set to begin officially on Friday, Women’s soccer matches started today, well because no one cares when they start. Prior to kickoff, a video package was being run throughout the stadium with photos of the North Korean players alongside a South Korean flag. Offended, the North Korean players and their coaches walked off the pitch in protest.
For those of you who don’t know the difference between the two flags:
Hard to argue any similarity other than apparently everyone in the world uses red, white, and blue.
A statement released by London 2012 organizers said:
“Today ahead of the women’s football match at Hampden Park, the South Korean flag was shown on a big screen video package instead of the North Korean flag. Clearly that is a mistake, we will apologize to the team and the National Olympic Committee and steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen again.”
Now, to be fair to whatever moron made this mistake, no one saw it except the players. I mean, how seriously can we take your sport when you begin playing games before the Olympics officially start in the first place. Let’s just hope the North Koreans use this as another excuse to roid up and cheat their way to a medal.
