Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim Wins Naismith Coach of the Year

It had been 20 years since the Syracuse Men’s basketball team held a #1 ranking during the regular season, despite the ‘Cuse winning a title in 2003. Boeheim took his team to a 30-5 record with a 15-3 record in the Tournament disappointing Big East Conference.
Accolades aside, Syracuse lost to Butler in the Sweet Sixteen, who eventually lost to perennial powerhouse Duke in the title game. Butler has an enrollment of 3,800 students compared to Syracuse’s 13,000 Undergraduates. Butler also carried two Academic All-Americans on their roster, while Syracuse had none. Butler also won 25 straight games leading up to their first ever title game, including going undefeated in the Horizon League.
I’m just wondering, how does Butler’s coach, Brad Stevens, not get the nod for Coach of the Year after taking a bunch of nobodies to the brink of Hoosierdom?
Here’s to Brad Stevens. The real NCAA Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year.
Big East Bye Bye Bye
#3 Syracuse and #10 Villanova entered the Big East Tournament with double byes while the rest of the league earned their way. Looks like that wasn’t the best way to win the Big East tournament this season, as they were both bounced in their first games of the tournament today by Georegetown and Marquette, respectively.
Georgetown made a big second half push to beat Syracuse 91-84 at Madison Square Garden on the back of Chris Wright’s 27 points and Austin Freeman’s 18.
CUSE #1
Syracuse was the only elite team to earn their medal last week, with choke jobs coming from Kansas, Kentucky, and Purdue. Those of you who thought the guard play and big men of Nova were the blueprint for your bracket champion, can just hand over your money, and let the commissioner of your tournament kick you in the nuts, because they cannot play effectively against a good defense.
That said, Cuse’s defense is impenetrable. I was amazed watching them play Nova, there is no way through their zone. It’s like a force field. Bobby Knight told ESPN, “coach Jim Boeheim has taught them the zone as well as it can be taught.” They turn baskets hetero [out hole only]. They put a roof on dunkers, double shooters, and even block out freaky girls with wandering fingers. They are the number 1 team and deserve it.
If they top your bracket come March I would not blame you
Syracuse Loses To D-II School Le Moyne
Le Moyne is a local D-II school that Syracuse uses for exhibition games as a tune up for the regular season. On Tuesday, that tune-up game became an embarrassment for basketball powerhouse Syracuse, when they lost 81-79. Granted it is only an exhibition game, but this is great for opposing team’s fans all season.
I wonder if I can buy a Le Moyne hat online for March Madness?
