As a financial institution Miami is nothing like the markets in New York, Los Angeles, Boston or Chicago, because they are not as big and don’t have the same following. It was only natural that Miami Heat owner Mickey Arison, who has been very supportive of a 2012 season, would reject a collective bargaining agreement that allows teams to have big rosters, as long as they pay the extremely expensive luxury taxes that come with them.

According to ESPN.com, Heat GM Pat Riley is trying to lure the former Buckeye standout to South Beach. Oden is a restricted free agent and has a qualifying offer with the Portland Trailblazers for $8.9 million dollars. The Heat would only be able to offer a mid-level exemption contract for $5 million dollars, but they hope to sell him under the pretenses that they are a serious contender.
