Editors Need To Start Giving a Hit
Apparently JA Happ chased a Grande meal from Taco Bell with some prune juice, and a Fiber One bar before his game, but still got the shut out.
Tony La Russa Hates Mexicans
While in Arizona playing the Diamondbacks St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa expressed his support for what Arizona is doing about immigration issues.
“I’m actually a supporter of what Arizona’s doing, La Russa said. The national government doesn’t fix your problem, and you’ve got a problem, they’ve got to take care of it themselves.”
I am sure all the Garcia’s and Lopez’s and Monlina’s and Motte’s and Reyes’ on your team would like to know just who the F you are calling a problem. Ese’.
Raise Your Hand if You Did Roids
The fact that Mark McGwire did roids in the 90’s is not breaking news. The fact that he finally admits it is. On Monday, McGwire sat down and spoke with Bob Costas to try to win some public favor over as he assumes the hitting coach position in St. Louis.
Too late Mark. You would have been better off admitting this all back when everyone already figured it out.
The full interview can be seen at MLB.com, but here’s the short version from ESPN.com:
Cardinals Sign Holliday to 7 year deal
Matt Holliday is finally signed with the St Louis Cardinals to the biggest contract in St. Louis’ team history at 7 years $120 million.
Holliday creates a lethal 1-2 punch behind Albert Pujols, who should easily have the richest contract in St. Louis history.
Holliday’s signing frees up a lot of teams that were looking for a big bat, to search elsewhere.
Nelly was not available to comment, but I’m guessing whatever he would have said would have been incomprehensible to everyone outside of Missouri anyway.
Baseball News!
The 2009 MLB winter meetings have been probably the most active big name deals in years. Pitching is at the top of everyone’s Christmas lists, and teams are giving up bats to get the arms they want. Let’s look at some trades and “almost done deals” as of Monday afternoon:
Done deal:
Curtis Granderson moves from Detroit to NY to takeover center field for the Yankees who lost Ian Kennedy and Phil Coke.
Done Deal:
Andy Pettite signs one year deal with NY Yankees
Done Deal:
Chone Figgins signs a 4-year deal with the Seattle Mariners
Holliday’s Balls Can’t Catch
I am not trying to speak like Yoda in the title.
Matt Holliday lost a fly ball in the Dodger stadium lights, with two outs and the lead, in the bottom of the ninth. The routine game ending play instead hit him in the nuts, and then hit the grass, just before Holliday himself face planted in it. It was quite the spectacle. The Dodgers went onto win game 2 on a Mark Loretta walk off single. The Carnials went onto lose their second straight playoff game, with a Cy Young contender on the mound, and more than likely the series. Matt Holliday went on to lose his confidence in himself and more than likely the ability to have children.
