According to Aberdeen police, Cal Ripken’s 74 year old mother Ki Ripken was kidnapped, at gun point, on Tuesday morning. The kidnapper bound her hands, covered her eyes and drove around, with her in the backseat of her Lincoln Continental, until Wednesday morning, when he abandoned her and the car back in her neighborhood. Gus Kowalewski, her neighbor, told reporters she was shaken up by the encounter, but was not harmed.
”He lit cigarettes for her, they stopped for food,” Kowalewski said. ”He said, ‘I’m not going to hurt you. I’m going to take you back,’ and that’s what he did.”
The kidnapper, who Ki described as a tall, thin white man, wearing glasses and camaflage clothing, took her money, but didn’t appear to want anything else, and didn’t ask for random. Cal and the Ripken family was just happy to have her back safely.
”This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy,” the Ripken family said in a statement. ”We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support, especially all of the law enforcement agencies that worked so hard and quickly.”
For the Record: who kidnaps the Iron Man’s mom? A baseball season is one of the longest and most grueling in all of sports, and he played 2,632 consecutive games. You just don’t mess with a guy that durable, determined or with that high of a pain threshold.
This gunman must have no fear. He just went right back into Cal’s hood and dropped his mom back off, like he was borrowing her. The guy probably has no idea that if Cal catches him, before the cops do, he will probably be poked with needles and electrocuted for several thousand consecutive days.
