New York, New Jersey Governors Argue Over Right to Root for Giants, Jets Apparently Forgotten

In predictably New York fashion, the Big Apple has decided to embrace the Giants as this years NYC representative in the NFL’s big game. It must be nice having two home teams to root for, especially when one of them actually  spends some time getting to the Super Bowl, rather than just talking about it.

Gov. Chris Christie (Left) with Gov. Andrew Cuomo

New Jersey governor Chris Christie, however, provided a slightly different perspective on the situation. Last week on the “Today” show, he expressed the opinion that since the G-men practice and play all their games in the Meadowlands, they are, in fact, a New Jersey team. He went as far as to request the victory parade (if they win of course) be held in the lovely Garden State. All this from a supposedly fervent Jets fan.

Overlooking an opportunity to make snide remarks about Chris Christie’s alliterative and uncreative first name/last name combination, New York governor Andrew Cuomo had only one response for his neighbor,

“He should read the helmets… New York Giants.”

Touche governor, touche. You certainly have a way with words.

For The Record: All ridiculous governor feuds aside, these New York Giants do seem eerily similar to the 2007-incarnation that beat the Patriots last time around. The intense pass rushing defense and exceptionally clutch 4th quarter offense will no doubt bring back sour memories for New England fans. Then again, it’s never smart to bet against Tom Brady in an indoor, climate-controlled stadium. As Bart Scott would say, “Can’t Wait.”
