Dubai Fitness Firm Used Image of Auschwitz in Online Gym Ad

Phil Parkinson, owner and apparently lead moron of Dubai-based fitness firm The Circuit Factory, used this image of the railroad tracks leading up to the most famous of all Nazi concentration camps for an ad promoting his gym.

Paired with the slogan “Kiss your calories goodbye”, the British-born owner said he used an image of Auschwitz to advertise weight-loss and exercise classes because “it’s like a calorie concentration camp”. -The National

The Auschwitz image along with several other poorly thought out concepts like a photo of a toilet full of feces with the slogan “bootcamps”, and a couple of other mildly offensive posts that made little to no sense, were posted by Parkinson on the gym’s Facebook Fan Page. Fans of the page were outraged by the ads, and quickly forced Parkinson to remove the images, and apologize repeatedly on Facebook.

“The idea of the campaign isn’t to upset anybody. The way branding works is … you want people talking about your business. We want them talking about us, but we don’t want people to take offence at it.” Parkinson said.

Well, bro, people are talking about your brand now, but I doubt it’ll help your business. You might see a spike in racist attendance in your next spin class though. Germans love a good spin class.

For The Record: I love how social media exposes new morons like this everyday. It’s like having a window into a whole new world of stupid people that you may never have had the opportunity to enjoy if there wasn’t a massive public forum like Facebook and Twitter for them to self-destruct on.

I find it odd how the author is offended by the picture of a concentration camp, but doesn't think twice about calling Germans racist. Stay classy Drenberg, you douche…

Timy, while I agree that his comment about Germans being racists was stupid, I think the whole world should be outraged at the ad showing Auschwitz as an incentive for diet and exercise.

Considering the Holocaust never happened in the way we’ve been told, I commend anyone who makes a joke out of it.

This is terrible, but living in China for 8 years I've seen worse. Nazi flags sold alongside national flags at the Olympics. Cartoon Hitlers promoting air conditioning. Women kitted out in SS uniforms promoting catalogues. A few of them I saved and put on my site: http://tracesofevil.com

This ad is disgusting and the asshole who published it should be ashamed of himself.
In addition the assumption of the author that (in 2012!) Germans will appreciate this kind of "humor" is unbelievable stupid and small-minded.

  6. I’m really enjoying the appearance of this web site. It’s simple, still impressive. Sometimes it is difficult to get that “great balance” between user friendliness and looks. I have to admit you have carried out an admirable job with this. What’s more, your website loads extremely quick for me personally on ie. Outstanding Site!
