#3 Syracuse and #10 Villanova entered the Big East Tournament with double byes while the rest of the league earned their way. Looks like that wasn’t the best way to win the Big East tournament this season, as they were both bounced in their first games of the tournament today by Georegetown and Marquette, respectively.
Georgetown made a big second half push to beat Syracuse 91-84 at Madison Square Garden on the back of Chris Wright’s 27 points and Austin Freeman’s 18.
Syracuse is still expected to be a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney, but with starting center, Arinze Onuaku headed for an MRI machine, look for Syracuse to get challenged hard in the paint off the bat.
Villanova’s loss may have been a little less shocking, as ‘Nova has only beaten Marquette by a total of 6 points in the past 3 meetings. Neither team played like a March Madness monster, so don’t plan on seeing Marquette upset Georgetown.
For The Record: Bill Plaschke just farted on Around The Horn. He may have been talking, but it sounded like farting.
