If there has ever been a team that has proven it can be raked over the coals in trades, it has been the Yankees. In the past they would over pay with young talent in order to get good players, and then throw in extra money on top of it. Yet after watching NYY come off a championship run, other teams in the league appear intent on seeing them repeat. First it was Detroit with Curtis Granderson, and now it is Atlanta with Javier Vazquez, neither of which took the house from under the Yankees.
This move counters the addition of John Lackey by the Red Sox, who will also lose Jason Bay, and continue to stand behind their fallen hero Big Pop-up. Now the only real hope we have of seeing the Yanks dethroned is a devastating injury to CC Sabathia, and maybe the Phillies, who must now pray that Cole Hammels returns to form, while Brad Lidge returns to his car and drives it off a bridge…
***Update***
Melky Cabrera the CF traded to the Braves for Javier Vazquez, was contaminated by small pox and the bubonic plague. The diseases are currently ravaging the Braves locker room. A similar technique involving infected blankets was used, in early American history, in order to eradicate the natives.
