The 2009 MLB winter meetings have been probably the most active big name deals in years. Pitching is at the top of everyone’s Christmas lists, and teams are giving up bats to get the arms they want. Let’s look at some trades and “almost done deals” as of Monday afternoon:
Done deal:
Curtis Granderson moves from Detroit to NY to takeover center field for the Yankees who lost Ian Kennedy and Phil Coke.
Done Deal:
Andy Pettite signs one year deal with NY Yankees
Done Deal:
Chone Figgins signs a 4-year deal with the Seattle Mariners
Almost done deal:
John Lackey headed to Boston for insane money.
Almost done deal if he doesn’t die of old age first:
Mike Lowell to Texas Rangers
Possible deal:
California Asians get ready for the Japanese media invasion:
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in San Bernardino County Mexico are trying to sign Hideki Matsui to DH role:
Highly touted Cuban defector has offer from Boston Red Sox:
Clocked at 102mph during the WBC, Ardolis Chapman has a $15 million dollar offer from the Red Sox on the table.
Deal in the works:
Halladay to Phillies:
CY Young winner Cliff Lee headed to Seattle Mariners?
We’ll keep you updated as trades and rumors spill out of the winter meetings. The Angels look like they’re dismantling their band of playoff losers, and Seattle looks like they want to make an immediate run at the World Series by picking up everything but the kitchen sink on the market. The Indians haven’t given up anyone during the winter meetings because they have nobody left to give up.
Stay Tuned.
