With the New York Yankees set to face the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2009 World Series, Italians from the Jersey Shore to Atlantic City will be louder and more annoying than any other time of the year. Let’s take a look at some of what each respective fan base will be using as ammo over the next couple weeks.
The Yankees are Pedro’s “Daddy”- Dating back to Pedro’s days with the Boston Red Sox, after another loss to the rival Yankees, Pedro Martinez was quoted by reporters as saying ” I tip my hat and call the Yankees my daddy”. Yankee fans proceeded to chant this obsessively while Pedro pitched at Yankee Stadium ever since. Plan on hearing it alot during Game 2.
Yankee Stadium costs 5 times as much as Citizens BallPark- Yankee fans will remind Phillies fans of this almost as often as they say, “Don’t you know who I am?!”
Yankee Stadium has a lot of seats most Yankee fans can’t afford- Phillie fans will certainly remind Yankee fans about the $2,500 a seat tickets that never sold back in April.
Mets fans become Phillies fans- Although Mets fans openly hate the Phillies, they definitely want Yankee fans to die. This will add to the noise within the Subway system for months to come.
PEDs and the Yankees- Philly teams have steered clear of PED scandals thus far, and plan on them making that very clear to Yankee fans every time AROD and Pettitte take the field.
Michael Vick Plays in Philly- Be sure to keep your eye out for clever Vick related signs in the Bronx. As annoying as Yankees fans are, they are excellent at poking fun at other cities’ miscues.
